Following a devastating ransomware attack against Insomniac Games, Ubisoft also suffered a malicious intrusion. This comes as game developers are bolstering their cybersecurity efforts.
Ubisoft’s cybersecurity teams reportedly cleaned their systems of the ‘Threat Actor’ before a substantial amount of data could be stolen, leading to a more positive ending than the Insomniac Games breach.
According to vx-underground on Twitter, an ‘unknown Threat Actor’ broke into Ubisoft’s systems on December 20th and remained there for around forty-eight hours.
During the intrusion, the Threat Actor had access to SharePoint, Confluence, and Microsoft Teams, as well as other internal systems. Despite this level of access, only a series of almost meaningless screenshots have surfaced.
The Threat Actor reportedly attempted to ‘exfiltrate’ around 900 GB of data but failed after being removed from the systems by Ubisoft.
It was claimed that the data the malicious operator was trying to secure was related to Rainbow Six Siege. The exact content obtained is not yet known, but vx-underground seems sure that the attempt was unsuccessful.
