Summary

  • Resident Evil 9 will reportedly return to a third-person camera style.
  • An optional first-person mode might also be available, though unconfirmed.
  • The game is Capcom’s most ambitious title in the franchise yet.
  • Development started in 2017, making it the longest in series history.
  • Capcom is aiming for a 2026 release and a 90+ Metacritic score.

Resident Evil 9 Will Be Third-Person, Says Insider

Longtime Resident Evil fans who’ve missed the classic third-person perspective have reason to celebrate. According to respected leakers Dusk Golem and AestheticGamer, Resident Evil 9 is being built with a third-person camera in mind — a major shift from the first-person approach seen in Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village.

While Capcom has not officially confirmed this, AestheticGamer (also known as Dusk Golem) stated that third-person was always the plan for RE9 since development began. In a recent post on social platform X, the insider noted, “RE9 is definitely designed as a third-person game.”

Optional First-Person Mode Might Be Included

Interestingly, the insider also shared a rumor that the game may offer an optional first-person mode, similar to a reverse version of the Gold Edition of Resident Evil Village. However, he emphasized that this detail wasn’t directly sourced and should be treated with caution.

If true, this hybrid camera system would allow players to choose their preferred playstyle, appealing to both fans of the newer entries and longtime series veterans.

Capcom’s Most Ambitious Resident Evil Yet

According to Dusk Golem, Resident Evil 9 has been in development since 2017 and has evolved significantly from its early concept, which originally included open-world multiplayer elements. The current version is described as Capcom’s most ambitious non-remake Resident Evil game yet, with goals to push the boundaries in quality, graphics, audio, and content.

Capcom is reportedly aiming for a 2026 release, marking the longest development cycle for any game in the franchise. The internal goal is also to secure a 90+ Metacritic score, a benchmark no original title in the series has officially hit before.

Official Announcement Still Pending

As of now, Capcom has remained silent about Resident Evil 9, with no trailers or official updates revealed. Given the insider buzz, many fans are hopeful that the studio may unveil a teaser before the end of 2025. Until then, all details remain speculative, though the insider’s past accuracy lends credibility to the leaks.
