PlayStation Stars Loyalty Program Is Shutting Down After 3 Years

Summary

  • PlayStation Stars is no longer accepting new members as of May 2025.
  • Current members can earn points until July 23, 2025.
  • Points can be redeemed until November 3, 2026.

PlayStation Stars Loyalty Program Will End in 2025

Sony has officially announced the end of its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, just three years after its launch. Starting today, the program will no longer accept new members, and players who cancel their membership now will lose their reward points permanently.

Existing members will still be able to earn reward points by completing eligible activities until July 23, 2025. After that, only redemptions will be allowed, with the final deadline set for November 3, 2026. Sony has made it clear that after these dates, players will no longer be able to participate or earn from the program.

Digital Collectibles Will Stay, But Campaigns Will Not

While the program is ending, users will still be able to view and access their Digital Collectibles, like the Jim Ryan bobblehead. However, no new campaigns or point-earning tasks will be introduced, and no alternative loyalty system has been announced as of now.

PlayStation vice president Grace Chen stated that Sony is learning from this program and considering future improvements. “We’ve learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to,” Chen said. “We are always evolving with player and industry trends.”

The Program’s Ups and Downs

PlayStation Stars was launched in July 2022 to reward users with points based on purchases and in-game tasks. Initially, players could use points for PlayStation Store credit and digital items. The system once allowed users to easily earn $5 or $25 credits, but over time, Sony tightened the rules, making it less rewarding.

There was also speculation that PlayStation Stars began as an NFT-related concept, which Sony may have shifted away from after backlash toward blockchain integrations. Regardless, interest and support dwindled over time, leading to this eventual shutdown.

What’s Next for Sony’s Rewards?

It’s unclear if Sony plans to introduce a new loyalty program. For now, players can redeem any remaining points until late 2026, but should act before the earning cutoff in July 2025. Whether a new version or improved system is in development is something Sony has yet to confirm.
