A new miniature console based on the Atari 400, called the 400 Mini, has been announced by Retro Games Ltd, the makers of the C64 Mini and Amiga 500 Mini.
Launch & Price: The 400 Mini is set to launch on March 28, 2024, and is priced at $119.99.
The 400 Mini is a half-sized version of the Atari 400, emulating the whole 8-bit Atari range, including the 400/800, XL and XE series, and the 5200 home console. It comes with 25 built-in classic games.
Players can insert a USB stick with their own Atari games and play those too. The console also includes THECXSTICK, a recreation of the classic Atari CX-40 joystick, with seven integrated function buttons.
The console has five USB ports in total for connecting joysticks, controllers, and keyboards. It also features a rewind mode that lets players rewind the action by up to 30 seconds.
It’s a convenient way to play a large portion of the Amiga’s games library. The controller is a tad uncomfortable and sideloading extra games can be a temperamental affair, but when everything works as it should, it’s great to play these classic titles again.
