Elden Ring Reportedly Coming to Mobile Platforms

Elden Ring, one of the biggest console success stories of 2022, is reportedly being developed for mobile devices by Tencent. The Chinese company, which owns 16.25% of developer FromSoftware, is said to be working on a mobile version that follows a similar free-to-play format to mobile titles like Genshin Impact.

At this time, Tencent has not confirmed the development of Elden Ring mobile. However, FromSoftware has confirmed plans to expand Elden Ring “as an IP”, which has already led to the creation of toys, tabletop games, manga, and more.

Despite being one of the biggest video game companies in the world, Tencent has struggled to grow this aspect of its business. CEO Pony Ma has expressed the company’s feeling of being “at a loss” as competitors continue to produce new products.

Elden Ring debuted on multiple platforms on February 25th, 2022, and immediately received critical acclaim. It won several awards, including Game of the Year from The Game Awards, and has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.

Last year, a DLC expansion titled Shadow of the Erdtree was announced, but there has been no word on a release date. It’s possible we could see Elden Ring mobile before Shadow of the Erdtree.

With the second anniversary of the game a few weeks away, it’s possible we could hear more about both Elden Ring mobile and Shadow of the Erdtree soon. Whether Elden Ring fans will embrace the free-to-play format remains to be seen.
