After much speculation and denial, Naughty Dog officially announced the cancellation of The Last of Us Multiplayer game, also known as The Last of Us Online.
The company acknowledged the anticipation around the project and expressed the difficulty in making the decision to halt its development.
The Last of Us Online had been in pre-production since the commencement of The Last of Us Part 2. The vision for the game had become more refined and satisfying over time.
As the project moved towards full production, the vastness of their ambition became evident. They were faced with a choice: to become a live service games studio or to continue focusing on single-player narrative games.
Choosing to uphold Naughty Dog’s heritage, the decision was made to concentrate more on single-player games.
Naughty Dog is currently working on multiple games and is excited to share more about their upcoming projects.
