A short teaser video at Jump Festa announced a full remake of the legendary anime series, One Piece.
The remake, courtesy of WIT Studio and Netflix, will re-animate the original manga’s first chapter “Romance Dawn” with new visuals, aiming to retell the story from the beginning for new and old fans alike.
The East Blue arc will be covered first in the remake, titled “The One Piece”.
There isn’t a set release date for the One Piece Anime remake yet, as the project has only recently been announced.
One Piece, which began as a manga by Eiichiro Oda in 1997, follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy in his quest to become the King of the Pirates. The anime adaptation started in 1999 and recently celebrated its 1000th episode.
The anime remake announcement comes on the heels of the recent live-action Netflix adaptation also currently in production. This provides the perfect entry point into One Piece’s epic world for those turned off by nearly 25 years of backlog.
