Hideo Kojima, the renowned auteur behind the Metal Gear series, has recently trademarked Physint, the working title of his next game, hinting at a deliberate strategy.
Physint was revealed at the most recent State of Play showcase and is set to be Kojima Productions’ next game following the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
The name Physint is igniting theories and interpretations. Some speculate it’s an abbreviation for “Physical/Physics Intelligence,” potentially reflecting themes of real-world information gathering amidst an age of unreliable digital intel.
While some see Physint as a spiritual successor to Metal Gear, Kojima has emphasized creating a new IP, allowing him complete creative freedom and the opportunity to explore fresh ideas within familiar territory.
Release timelines are nebulous, with anticipations leaning towards a lengthy wait, potentially exceeding three to four years. Kojima himself hinted at a 2026 reveal, coinciding with his 40th anniversary in the industry.
As Kojima ventures into this new AAA project, he continues to push the boundaries of genre and narrative, starting with Death Stranding and now returning to the stealth genre with Physint, poised to redefine audience expectations.
