Resident Evil’s Original Director, Shinji Mikami, Declines Return to the Franchise

Shinji Mikami, the director of the original Resident Evil, has reportedly stated that he is not interested in returning to the franchise.

Mikami made this statement during a live talk that also involved Hideki Kamiya, best known for directing the original Resident Evil 2.

Both Mikami and Kamiya expressed their respect for each other during the talk, highlighting their camaraderie in the gaming industry.

Mikami, who left Tango Gameworks earlier this year, is expected to announce his future projects soon. Both Mikami and Kamiya expressed interest in Okami during the talk.

The Resident Evil series is currently focusing on various remakes, with Capcom planning to continue this trend. There’s been a lot of buzz over the potential for a Resident Evil – Code: Veronica remake.

Despite the disappointment among fans about Mikami’s decision not to return to the series, they are supportive of whatever he chooses to pursue next, looking forward to fresh and innovative contributions from him.
