Rockstar Games has reportedly been working on a new IP since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2. The game is being developed in collaboration with a “hugely popular” third-party developer.
In October 2023, Take-Two Interactive filed a trademark for “Project Ethos”. It’s unclear if this is related to Rockstar Games’ new IP.
During its 2021 earnings call, Take-Two Interactive announced that it was preparing over 60 new releases, 23 of which are “immersive core” titles, between April 2022 and March 2024.
According to sources, Rockstar Games is developing two new IPs. One is a resurrected project titled “Agent”, and the other features a medieval fantasy setting.
The medieval fantasy IP could be a new direction for Rockstar Games, possibly rivaling the likes of Elder Scrolls and Elden Ring. The gameplay is expected to emphasize melee weapons and sorcery.
The recently announced GTA VI is expected to sell well, but some believe it could mark the end of the series due to “millennial cringe”. GTA VI is set to arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no announcement for a PC version yet.
