Sales of Nintendo Switch Reach 139 Million Units

Since its release in 2017, the Nintendo Switch has sold over 139 million units, making it the second-highest-selling Nintendo console of all time. It’s still around 15 million units behind the Nintendo DS, but it has surpassed the sales of the Wii and 3DS.

More than 1.2 billion software units have been sold since the console was released, a monumental sum in the Nintendo world.

A recent financial update revealed growth across the board for Nintendo, with increased operating profit, net sales, and net profit. The number of ‘annual player users’ is increasing exponentially, reaching 122 million gamers in 2023.

The market is split between the Switch, the Switch OLED, and the Switch Lite, with the OLED model leading since FY2023. Both digital and physical sales trends show a positive spread.

There’s a solid outlook for the year ahead, with releases like Mario vs. Donkey Kong and Princess Peach Showtime topping the table.

High expectations are in store for Nintendo, which is due to reveal its next hardware soon. There are beliefs that the Switch 2 will be released by the end of the year, but little is known or has been confirmed about the console.
