Take-Two Interactive has filed a trademark dispute against Remedy Entertainment over its new logo, which is a stylised letter ‘R’.
Take-Two filed an opposition in September 2023, claiming that there exists a likelihood of confusion between Remedy’s new logo and one of Take-Two’s own trademark logos.
Specifically, Take-Two believes that Remedy’s new logo is too similar to the logo of its subsidiary, Rockstar Games.
This isn’t the first time Take-Two has been involved in a trademark dispute. In 2021, it filed a dispute over developer Hazelight’s attempt to trademark its co-op platformer, ‘It Takes Two’, which led to Hazelight being forced to abandon its trademark.
The dispute is particularly awkward as Remedy is currently working with Rockstar on remakes of ‘Max Payne’ and ‘Max Payne 2’
Once Rockstar recoups its development, marketing, and other costs, Remedy then has an opportunity to earn royalties from subsequent game sales.
