Despite the name of the Legend of Zelda series, Zelda has never been a playable character in the main games
Unless players want to jump into Super Smash Bros. or 2014’s Hyrule Warriors, there isn’t much scope to test out the princess’s skills.
Before The Game Awards, IGN interviewed the producer and the director of Tears of the Kingdom about the possibility of seeing a playable Zelda in the future.
Tears of the Kingdom producer Eiji Aonuma and director Hidemaro Fujibayashi hinted at the potential for a playable Zelda in the future.
While it doesn’t appear that anything is in the works at this moment, it would definitely be a fun twist on the usual Zelda game to be able to play as the princess of Hyrule.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was nominated for several awards at The Game Awards. It did not win the Game of the Year award, but it did take the prize for best “action/adventure” game.
